Switzerland stuns France to reach Euro 2020 quarterfinals
Switzerland shocked world champions France 5-4 on penalties to reach the Euro 2020 quarterfinals on Monday, after a thrilling 3-3 draw in Bucharest.
Kylian Mbappe missed the decisive spot-kick as the Swiss celebrated a famous victory, while France were left to rue a host of missed chances.
The match had swung back and forth throughout, with Karim Benzema scoring twice for France, including a stunning volley to level the scores at 3-3 in the 57th minute.
But it was Haris Seferovic's 81st-minute goal that forced extra time and eventually penalties.
Switzerland will now face Spain in the quarterfinals on Friday, while France's hopes of retaining their title are over.
